In the aftermath of the March 31 fire that destroyed approximately 20 structures in Wilsonville’s Villebois neighborhood, then–City Councilor Ben West stepped forward to lead a rapid and organized community response. With families facing sudden displacement, medical issues from smoke exposure, and high insurance deductibles, West launched a GoFundMe relief effort that quickly raised $15,000. He also assembled a small board and created a simple, fast application process to ensure funds were distributed within days, prioritizing the residents with the greatest need.
West emphasized urgency and compassion, saying, “We have the ability to meet people’s needs right now.” Beyond immediate relief, he voiced hope that the fund could evolve into an ongoing community resource for future emergencies — a reflection of his commitment to preparedness and neighbor-to-neighbor support.
Additional fundraisers organized by local businesses and nonprofits helped strengthen the effort, demonstrating a unified community ready to help families recover.
