Construction is underway on Clackamas Village, a 24-pod transitional-housing community designed to provide both safety and second chances for Clackamas County residents experiencing homelessness. The project includes a central community center, kitchen, bathrooms, and offices to deliver comprehensive wrap-around care. Commissioner Ben West said the facility’s goal is not only to meet people where they are but also to help them gain the skills needed to secure long-term independence. Each resident will be able to stay for up to a year while receiving treatment, stability support, and life-skills training. Modeled after the nearby Veterans Village, which has successfully housed and transitioned local veterans, the initiative is expected to serve hundreds over time. West described the program as an intentional bridge between crisis and recovery — a model focused on stability, dignity, and measurable outcomes. The project underscores his commitment to pairing compassion with accountability in county policy.
